Rutherford is the head of Legal for Private Equity and Structured Finance with FMO – the Dutch Development Bank. A US-trained lawyer, Rutherford specializes in renewable energy project finance and impact investing in frontier markets. With FMO he oversees the legal team for one of Europe’s most innovative blended finance portfolios. With extensive on-the-ground experience in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Caucasus, Rutherford has also worked on development and policy matters with Transparency International, the World Bank, and the US Peace Corps. Rutherford holds a Juris Doctor cum laude (University of Michigan Law School, USA), a Master’s degree in corruption in post-conflict markets (University of Michigan, USA), and is a recipient of the Bates Fellowship in international law.
